Mahalo

Our Hawaiian brother, Matthew Tapia created this on the beach over the weekend and we felt it would be the perfect final post for 2012. Onwards to 2013.

Ferrari driving Doctors

When Jennifer Daniel sends you an email asking you if you want to do a cover for Bloomberg Businessweek you reply, ¥€$. It’s not everyday you get to use lettering as a graphic device to poke fun at a topic most of us are aware of. Attached below are the 3 sketches from the first round.

J. Hughes F.B.D.O

The nice folks at Etsy invited us to contribute a mural as part of their 2012 Etsy Holiday Shop. They invited 10 artists to create a portrait of an individual whom they have found inspiring, live in the storefront window. Having been inspired by John Hughes, all of us at FoT felt the last line in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was perfect for the occasion…. a reminder to those who are too busy to stop and enjoy life.

8 Faces Magazine cover

Over the summer the multi talented Elliot Jay Stocks of Faces magazine  asked me to create the cover for their 5th issue. As you can see I took the opporunity to draw up 8 different styles for each contributors name. All those names fit into frames which made the cover into a little gallery that includes some of my favorite creatives out there today. A big thank you to Elliot for letting me take a stab at this one.

Lettering Class of ’12

This is the UK cover for Reinventing Lettering, a book by Emily Gregory. A lovely collection that gathers some of today’s finest typographers, illustrators, designers and lettering artists all in a single publication. It also features the 4 of us along with many FoT guests, friends and folks we admire.

In the USA, this book is titled “Little Book of Lettering”
