Gone Playing
We were asked by the fine folks at ESPN Magazine to contribute to their fun typographic table of contents by illustrating the words “Go Play”. Below are some process images of how we got to what you see above.

With an open brief, there were pages and pages of sketches to land on an idea. Here are a few selects from the sketchbook.

Landing on the idea of abstract racetracks (or those funky rubber bands), here are the rough letterforms that we used to start playing around with composition.

Lots and lots of twisting and tweaking and shape moving. Since the letterforms were pretty abstract, we wanted the piece to read properly as well as work together as a whole.

PLO GAY?
That was one combination of letters we were playing around with. GOP LAY was another.
Just came across this on FFFFound! I love how the G fills up the space above the A. Great job again!
